'MCA, fulfill promises made on Beng Hock's grave'

Teoh Beng Hock’s family is unhappy with recent developments in the inquest, and is now demanding that a royal commission be set up to uncover the truth behind his death.

Teoh’s sister Lee Lan (right) yesterday requested MCA and Gerakan leaders - who had pledged to help set up such a commission - to keep their word.

“The promises made in front of Beng Hock’s grave, we will one day want you all to fulfill them," she said.

“MCA president Ong Tee Keat, deputy president Liow Tiong Lai, and Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon, during their condolence visit last year, all stated that they support a royal commission. I have reconfirmed with them, and they all said they are fully supportive of us."

Lee Lan attended the forum  'Injustice for 1 Year: What Say You, Malaysians' organised by the ‘Malaysians for Beng Hock’ Campaign and Civil Rights Committee of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (CRC-KLSCAH) last night.

Speaking to an audience of 200, she expressed regret that MCA and Gerakan had never invited the Teoh family for any memorial service or forum.

Lee Lan called on Malaysians to stand up and demand justice for Beng Hock, and to help reform the current corrupt system to prevent similar incidents from being repeated. 

“Do you want another witness to die mysteriously?” she asked.

'M'sians, show your support'

Another speaker, Haris Ibrahim, called on all Malaysians to wear the ‘Malaysians for Beng Hock’ T-shirt every Saturday to show their support for the Teoh family and protest against injustice by the BN government.

“This is to convey a clear message that the rakyat won’t tolerate injustice. The rakyat is the boss, and can bring change,” said Haris (left).

Ng Yap Hwa, who hosted the forum, also called on Malaysians to take a day’s leave to attend the inquest tomorrow, wearing the T-shirt to show support for Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand and Beng Hock.

“Take a day off from the 365 days in a year. I am sure it will be a worth it. This is to encourage Beng Hock and Pornthip.”

Pornthip arrived in Kuala Lumpur early this afternoon to testify for the second time at inquest. She had previously claimed that there was an 80 percent possibility that Teoh was murdered.

The Attorney-General's Chambers (AG) had recently produced a 'note' purportedly written by Beng Hock and pointing to suicide. But his family are highly suspicious of it and are demanding that it be authenticated.

Lee Lan yesterday reasserted that she did not think the writing on it was Beng Hock’s.

“Actually before the inquest started, rumours of such a note had been circulating on the Internet, but we didn’t believe these. We are surprised that the AG has put it up as ‘new evidence’ now.”
