No surprises in SUPP polls
As expected, the top leadership line-up in the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) a Barisan Nasional component saw little change when its election results were announced today.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr George Chan Hong Nam returned unopposed as president while his deputy and Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Law Hieng Ding also retained his party post without contest.
However, there were changes in the six vice-president posts. The most significant being the widely expected exclusion of the member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching, Song Swee Guan.
The 62-year-old MP, who until last year was also state assemblyperson for Padungan (Kuching City), may most likely be dropped from the party's next line-up of parliamentary candidates as well.
Song's party post has gone to Works Ministry parliamentary secretary and MP for Padawan, Yong Khoon Seng.
Meanwhile, State Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communications Wong Soon Koh relinquished his vice-president post and was appointed one of the two deputy secretaries-general.
MP for Lanang Tiong Thai King brother of Sarawak timber tycoon Tiong Hiew King has been made one of the six vice-presidents, along with Sibu MP and mayor Robert Lau Hoi Chew, brother of another Sarawak timber tycoon, Lau Hui Kang.

New face
A new face in the line-up is the freshly elected Youth head Alan Sim Yaw Yen. Sim, along with Robert Lau's, wife Janet Lau Ung Hie, became vice-president by virtue of their positions as Youth and Women heads respectively.
Promoted from SUPP Youth deputy head to deputy secretary-general is an assistant state minister Francis Harden. He replaces a former assistant state minister, Ramsay Noel Jitam.
State Assistant Minister of Industrial Development Sim Kheng Hui was returned unopposed as the party's secretary-general.
Former Youth chief and the state assemblyperson for Senadin, Lee Kim Shin, has been elected as one of the four assistant secretaries-general.
The other three are state assemblyperson Daniel Ngieng Kiong Ann, MP Richard Riot and state assemblyperson Dr Jerip Susil.
Another state minister, David Teng Lung Chi, returned unopposed as party treasurer together with Chan Seng Khai as his assistant.
The organising secretary is Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui and Toh Heng San, a state assemblyperson and political secretary to Taib, is his assistant.
Alfred Yap Chin Loi, an assistant state minister, is information and publicity chief who will be assisted by another assistant state minister, Dr Soon Choon Teck.
