The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) will be suing PKR's newsletter Suara Keadilan "anytime soon" for claiming that the government agency was bankrupt.

"I have been told (by lawyers) that the suit will be filed anytime soon," said Felda chairperson Yusof Nor, on the sidelines of a function in Kuala Lumpur today.

He claims that there have been attempts to paint Felda in a bad light for political reasons.

On the decision by 766 settlers to sue Felda in Negeri Sembilan, Yusof said that they were being instigated by certain groups.

The settlers are suing Felda for RM200 million in loss of monies over 15 years, which they claim was a result of being paid less for palm oil yield than the rate recommended by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board.

Yusof claimed that the suit was filed last Monday on the initiative of the same group that has been criticising Felda, so that the settlers “listen to what they are told”.

He cautioned the settlers against buying into such actions, as he had been made to understand that each settler had to pay RM500 to file the suit against Felda.

“I urge settlers to be cautious when someone takes the initiative to sue Felda and asks for payment. I understand that the payment is not refundable.

“Don’t be influenced by such actions because they (settlers) will become the victims... RM500 is not a small amount for them,” he said.
