IGP sued 253 times over five years

According to a written answer to a question in Parliament by Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng (right), Najib said that the government has also been sued 2,881 times by the public in the same period.
The bulk of the cases against the government were heard by the High Court, while most those against the IGP were heard by the Sessions Court, said the PM in the answer faxed to Lim last week.
The premier added that 1,550 of these cases have been solved, with the government and the police chief losing 480 of them.
In his statement to the press, Lim said that he believes that the number of aggrieved citizens is even higher as taking the authorities to court is not easy.
"One must have the money to hire a lawyer, the courage and can afford the time. For example, Selangor exco Ronnie Liu won his case for police brutality only after 23 years in court," he said.
At the same time, the parliamentarian welcomes the government's move to provide RM5 million to the Malaysian Bar's Legal Aid Foundation for this purpose.
However, Lim who is also a lawyer added that the government must take a step further to fully fund the programme which assists the needy.
