Felda deputy director-general (community development) Abidin Abdul Rahman said the management has decided to go to the ground to explain the 'bankrupt' issue.

"We want to explain this issue to 1.5 million Felda settlers as some may not have clear understanding about it," he told reporters after launching the 'Mesra 1Felda' programme at Felda Kerteh 5 near Kemaman, Terengganu today.

He said the Felda settlers were angry with the lies spread by certain quarters as they knew that it was financially stable.

This was proved by the RM1.3bil tax paid to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) for five years since 2004, issue of 14 percent dividends and annual return of RM1bil from 300,000 hectares of plantation land.

"Felda is just like a virgin. Nobody cares to look when she was plain but everyone wants to court her after some make-up," he said.

Abidin said those spreading the lies were irresponsible as they could affect the Felda community.

"They may be from the old school of thought who want to see lots of money while Felda spent money to get returns for settlers.  There is less money but our assets have increased," he added.
