After twice being postponed, the Bukit Bendera Umno division will finally have its division meeting on Sunday.

However, it would not be held in the division but at a hotel in Bayan Baru.

ahmad ismail putrajaya meet pm 090908 01"I have been informed by the supreme council to hold the meeting outside the division. The supreme council understands the problem. We cannot postpone it further as the fasting month is getting close," said former division chief Ahmad Ismail (left).

Ahmad said the meeting will be held at the Eastin Hotel in the Bayan Baru parliamentary constituency at 2.30pm.

Initially, it had been scheduled on July 11 but was postponed to July 31. However that meeting was called off.

Ahmad, when contacted by Malaysiakini, said the meeting had to be postponed following logistical problems. He didn't divulge what they were.

Further details on the division meeting will be made available in a press conference on Aug 5 at the division's office in Tanjung Bunga.

In March, all 36 division committee members resigned to pave the way for fresh elections and for Ahmad to assume his former post.

Ahmad was suspended in September 2008 for three years following his racially slanted statements on the Chinese community.

It escalated when Ahmad made calls for Gerakan to leave BN, and his supporters reacted by tearing former chief minister and Gerakan president Dr Koh Tsu Koon's picture.

However, in December, the party supreme council reinstated Ahmad.
