Perkasa has lodged an official protest with the United States government over statements issued by ex-ambassador John R Malott in his blog, alleging that the Malay rights NGO is a militant organisation.

NONEIbrahim Ali (in dark tie, in photo), Perkasa’s president, handed over a memorandum to acting US deputy ambassador to Malaysia Brian McPhearson and political councillor Jeremy B Nathan at the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur today.

He was accompanied by legal advisor Salehuddin Saidin, his deputy Rahman Bakar and  supreme council members Samsuri Arshad and Ahmad Sujak.

The five-member delegation entered the embassy at 2.22pm and emerged more than one hour later at 3.40pm.

anwar ibrahim with john malott 250205“I believe that Mr Malott (far left, in photo) listened to ‘fabrication of feedbacks’ given to him by a person close to him, and believed it one hundred percent without seeking the truth or checking facts,” Ibrahim told reporters in a press conference in front of the embassy’s gates later.

Ibrahim added that they also spent some time explaining the truth about Perkasa to the acting ambassador, whom he said was receptive.

'Sodomy II not conspiracy'

He said that they also refuted Malott’s accusation, made in a blog posting that carried his remarks on Perkasa, that the second sodomy trial against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is a political conspiracy.

NONE“Mr McPhearson said to me that he himself was confused with the reports on the matter, and he assured me that Malott’s views were personal and does not represent the official view of the US government,” added the Pasir Mas MP.

About 30 police officers, including four armed with sub-machine guns, stood guard at the embassy gates, while roughly the same number of reporters and about ten Perkasa supporters waited outside during the duration of Perkasa’s visit to the US Embassy.
