From the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks. So Donald Lim, a senior member of MCA was honestly voicing what MCA is and its deep-felt sentiment. The MCA leaders can distance themselves as much as they want but they cannot run too far off from their true character as it is known to all in Malaysia.

All along its history, MCA has built its strength from promoting Chinese chauvinism, many times displaying flagrant racism. What is disappointing is that it does not champion the cause of all Chinese.

It has been self-seeking and serving the interests of a select few. This is mainly why even the Chinese population in Malaysia rejected the MCA soundly in the general elections in 2008 and will continue to do so.

Let a non-Chinese approach any MCA service centre for help and the reception he gets would be cool if not cold.

The same is true of the MCA Public Complaints Bureau. Having read so many glowing reports about it in the media, I approached the bureau for help and was told I would only be helped if I had my photo taken and spoke to reporters.

I tried to persuade them that I wanted help without publicity. But no one at the bureau was prepared to listen to me.

Surely not everyone wants the whole world to know one’s problem. Surely alleviating human trauma and suffering should be placed before seeking publicity.

This is the attitude of MCA and its affiliates. Until all political parties in Malaysia shake off their racist mantle and start serving all Malaysians equally, we can forget about multi-racialism and ‘1Malaysia’. Sloganeering without action is useless.
