Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the proposal for cabinet members to declare their assets to the public in the interest of transparency, must be decided by the cabinet.

“Cabinet members now declare their assets to the prime Minister,” said Ahmad Zahid after handing out Ramadhan contributions at the Simpang Empat Mosque in Rungkup, Bagan Datoh last night when asked to comment on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kassim Mohamed’s proposal for all cabinet ministers to declare their assets to the public.

Ahmad Zahid said such proposals needed to be discussed and decided by the cabinet, together with the prime minister.

“During former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s time, such a proposal was made, but all ministers only submitted their declared assets to the prime minister,” he said.
