DPM welcomes initiatives to unite Malays, Muslims

Kgen: Malay unity again? Just what is Malay unity and for what purpose? For Umno to sideline the non-Malays and rule forever? When will this guy start talking about national unity?

Ferdtan: How can you trust a man of robe who dabbles in politics? Perak mufti Harussani should quit his post and contest as Umno candidate. He didn't tell the truth once when he said many Malays were being converted to Christianity. Isn't lying and making false accusations a sin in Islam?

KSN: Perhaps Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should clarify what he means ‘uniting the Malays and Muslims'. The group he mentioned are now supporting three parties - Umno, PAS and PKR. How did he arrive at the conclusion that they are disunited?

Put simply, the Malays/Muslims have different political views and philosophy about how Malaysia should be governed and run. These are merely political differences and by no stretch of the imagination can one conclude that they are not united.

Perhaps the DPM believes that because Umno has lost - for good - the majority of Malay/Muslim support, they are not united. Wrong, DPM. What Umno should do - though I believe it is too late in the day - is admit and understand that it is Umno's divisive, corrupt policies, arrogance, etc, that caused the loss of support, and see whether anything can be done to redeem their support.

May I add also that Umno/BN has also lost the support of the non-Muslims and non-Malays as well.

Aramsa: Yes, Malays can and should be untied, but not under the Umno banner. To do so would undermine the integrity of the Malay populace. Umno is corrupt to the core and is beyond redemption. I am very sure most Malays would not, and should not, be associated with a party which has deceived them for the last 52 years.

The Malays should look at the dawn of a new beginning, where Malays in general will prosper with others hand-in-hand for a greater Malaysia under the Pakatan banner comprising, but maybe not limited to PAS, PKR and DAP.

Umno has already proven to be a national disaster, along with the other BN component parties. It is time they should be taken to task by the people, especially the Malays themselves, who should be awakened to the deception and hypocrisy of Umno's patronage politics.


'Forgotten' tribes left behind by development

Upyes: It is greed that makes some folks insensitive to nature's beauty and sovereignty. Their greed makes them justify their rape of the eco-system, converting magnificent 400-year-old hardwoods into office furniture and toothpicks. This rapacious attack on nature's beauty and bounty of course leaves forest dwellers like the Orang Asli depleted, deprived and depressed.

Seeing the savage onslaught of bulldozers and chainsaws, the indigenous folk feel a sense of hopelessness and futility. Their will to live is weakened by contact with urbanite Malays who look down on them and constantly attempt to convert them to Islam or with urbanite non-Malays who feed them nonsense about a blue-eyed celibate Jew named Jesus.

Their apparent poverty is the direct result of the obvious greed of so called developers, industrialists, miners and loggers who get rewarded with honorific titles by sultans who fatten themselves off logging and mining concessions.


Tiger of Jelutong still hungry for justice

Habib RAK: It would have been nice if Dr Mahathir Mohamad had apologised to Karpal Singh for incarcerating him in 1987 under the ISA during Operasi Lalang. By now, Mahathir should know that Karpal and others were mere political prisoners. It's been over 20 years and it's time for Mahathir to find peace.

Petersan: Long live the Jelutong tiger. The country still needs you, Karpal Singh!

Ferdtan: YB Karpal Singh, best health to you always. You are truly a great son of Malaysia. Your name shall be carved in history as a fearless fighter for justice. There is no Singh but the Karpal Singh. I pray to God that you live for many more years and that you see your dream comes true - a truly just country called Malaysia under, of course, the Pakatan Rakyat banner.

Voice From The Wilderness: Thank you, YB Karpal, for being a remarkable man and a fine example for the younger generations to follow. Thank you, Umno, for making him the Lion of Jelutong and the famous son of Malaysia.

Louis: I remember reading about a poor lady saying that Karpal Singh "tidak minta satu sen pun" from her for representing her in a land case. Karpal is truly a man of the poor and weak. I am sure most Malaysians would wish him many, many more happy returns of the day!

Gary Nair: The people of Malaysia should be proud and thankful that we live in the era of this great and principled man called the Tiger of Jelutong. His name puts fear in his opponents, but in actual fact and as I have known him, he is one of the kindest. He may look fierce, but actually very humble and handsome.

Look at his children, and you will know how good a father he is, unlike some children of other VIPs, particularly how they behave. May God give you many more birthdays, YB Karpal,

No Lawyer: Yes, Karpal is man worthy of respect, but sometimes he does not deserve it. I was all the while envious of him, until when he turned his back on the legal issue of whether what the PM Najib Abdul Razak had said in Hulu Selangor and Sibu was tantamount to corruption.

Karpal knew the answer well, that it was not, because he was the one who represented the respondent in the Pengkalan Kota by-election petition, a similar case which had been cited by the judge as not being corruption. If Karpal had been willing to stand up and make his point that Najib's statement was not corruption unless otherwise ruled by a higher court, then he deserves my salute.

Jiminy Qrikert: Happy Birthday to Karpal Singh, the Tiger of Jelutong. Malaysians of all races salute you for your unwavering commitment to what is right and your fight for the common folk, the oppressed and for a new Malaysian future.
