Mukhriz: Better for PAS to work with Umno than DAP

Jerlun member of parliament Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said their differing principles should provide an opportunity for PAS leaders and members to re-evaluate its position in the opposition pact, which also included PKR.
“Why is PAS still willing to work with DAP which clearly has a conflicting ideology from PAS?”
“Perhaps it is due to PAS’ eagerness to capture Putrajaya (federal government) that it is willing to compromise and sacrifice its principles,” he said after visiting Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu in Marang today.
Mukhriz, who is also International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister, was earlier asked to comment on the latest development involving the two opposition leaders.
Nik Aziz, who is Kelantan Menteri Besar, was before this reported to have challenged Karpal Singh to prove that the PAS-style Islamic state concept in practice in Kelantan for the past 20 years, was wrong.
The PAS spiritual leader regards the statement by the DAP national chairman through a news portal, rejecting the implementation of the Islamic-state concept if the opposition pact could form the next federal government, as personal.
Nik Aziz said PAS would continue with its Islamic concept of administration which it had championed all this while, even if there were opposing voices from among the parties in the opposition pact.
Mukhriz said Umno was more suitable for PAS to work with as they had more similarities than differences but unfortunately, only the differences were highlighted.
Mukhriz was earlier asked to comment on the statement by Umno Youth membership and voter registration bureau chairman Hishamudin Yahya that the ratio of Malay to non-Malay new registered voters since the 2008 general election was 1:40.
However, according to the Election Commission statistics, Umno registered the biggest number of new voters last year at 24,818 followed by DAP (17,756) and PAS (16,987).
