Malay rights group Perkasa’s official organ has landed in hot soup barely a day after its maiden issue had hit the streets.

azlan According to Suara Perkasa chief editor Daud Ibrahim, the publication’s editor, Amirudin Mohamad, was called for questioning by the Home Ministry in Putrajaya at 5pm today.

Daud said the publication was being probed for two articles - a front page report titled ‘Arrest Ka Siong under ISA’ and ‘Chinese newspapers... why is the Home Ministry afraid to act’.

He added that he has also been called for questioning and would present himself at the Home Ministry headquarters at noon on Monday.

“I take this as a challenge because there is yet to be a newspaper that is based on the concept on defending the Malays. I will grant my fullest cooperation,” Daud said when contacted.

He said that he was not worried about the Home Ministry’s investigation.

“All the articles which were panas (sensitive) have been vetted by a legal adviser,” he said.

According to China Press, Amirudin met Home Ministry secretary-general Mahmood Adam at the meeting. 

The ministry's probe follows the indefinite suspension of Suara Keadilan , PKR's party organ, over its report that the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is bankrupt.

Opponents of the suspension of Suara Keadilan described it as an attempt to curb public scrutiny of the government, while publications that fanned racial sentiments, such as Suara Perkasa, appeared to enjoy immunity. 

Among others, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin had criticised Perkasa for the article calling for Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong to be detained under the Internal Security Act.
