No police permit for weekend GAS rally

No permit has been issued by the police until today for any gathering or activities at Dewan Hamzah in Klang on Sunday, district police chief ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop said today.
He said this when asked on the Anti-Samy Vellu Movement (GAS) gathering being planned at the hall this Sunday.

Meanwhile, Selangor MIC Youth chief M Shanker Raj Ayenger has lodged a report at the Klang police station today to protest against the proposed gathering.
He said the report was lodged to prevent the gathering from being held so as not to jeopardise the harmony, unity and peace enjoyed by the Indian community in Malaysia.
"Anything concerning the election and position of MIC president S Samy Vellu is the right of party delegates and branch chairpersons to decide and not by those wanting to see split in MIC," he added.
Mohamad confirmed receiving the report.
It was learnt that the gathering was earlier planned for June 13, but postponed due to security factors.
The first GAS gathering was held on May 30 at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre. It was attended by more than 5,000 people.
The GAS movement was initiated by former MIC Youth chief V Mugilan in an effort to get 500,000 signatures from MIC members nationwide to force Samy Vellu to step down.
