Donald Lim ducks KJ's questions on Proton

A bemused Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau) couldn't contain his mirth over the answers given to him by Deputy Finance Minister Donald Lim.
A bemused Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau) couldn't contain his mirth over the answer given to him by Deputy Finance Minister Donald Lim.
"I have just heard the worst answer in Parliament in the two years that I have been an MP," was the comment he posted immediately after on micro blogging site Twitter, from inside the august House itself.
His views straddled party lines as Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) concurred with him.
"Heh, KJ has Donald answering his Proton Qn in Parlimen! So wat u think?," asked the opposition parliamentarian in a tweet of his own.
During question time Khairy (left) asked what are the government's strategies in national car manufacturer Proton's search for a strategic foreign partner and would it involve foreign equity ownership?
Lim's answer was short and sweet though far from the point.
"The government will ensure that Proton will be more competitive," said Lim in an apparent sidestep of the question.
A visible bemused Khairy was stopped dead in his normally smooth tracks as he struggled to make sense of the answer.
"This answer did not address the question, I am unsure of the quality of this answer," he deadpanned.
However, he graciously added that he did not blame the deputy minister but said the Finance ministry was at fault for not furnishing the newly-appointed Lim with the correct information.
Khairy then pressed Lim about the matter, again receiving a noncommittal answer.
Abdullah Sani (PKR-Hulu Langat) (right) then stood up to ask for the number of Proton cars produced in its 25 years of operation and statistics on Proton's car exports.
Again appearing to be caught off guard, Lim could only say that he had no access to the figures at the moment and said he would give a written reply.
Despite his mirth, Khairy also appeared to be put off by the matter.
"Does the Finance Ministry think that an MP's question is a trivial thing? How can they give an effortless answer like that? What a waste for me to read Proton's financial report," read another of his tweets.
