Is the opposition worried about the Barisan Nasional-controlled RTM? Yes, says Zainiddin Maidin, parliamentary secretary to the Information Ministry.

This was why the opposition tabled a motion on a RM10 salary cut against the Information Minister because it is worried about RTM's effectiveness in exposing its political tactics, he was quoted by the Bernama news agency as saying today.

According to Zainuddin, the opposition actually had no basis for tabling the motion in Parliament as Information Minister Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob had been doing a good job.

Support of people

"The motion came about because they can see the effectiveness of RTM in opening the minds of the people and exposing the opposition's methods of politicking. If there had been no effect, they would not have sought the salary reduction," he added.

Zainuddin said RTM's airing of videoclips showing the true colours of the opposition had received the support of the public and some people had even said they should have been screened earlier.

Two days ago, the Dewan Rakyat rejected the salary-cut motion tabled by the opposition, which alleged that Khalil had failed to discharge his duties properly.
