It looks like another long and agonising week of waiting for the feuding factions in the crisis-ridden Sarawak National Party (Snap) before they are able to know the fate of their party.

Registrar of Societies Ismail Dolah Harun told reporters in Kuching this morning that he would be making a decision on the fate of Sarawak's second oldest political party next week.

While many Snap members had openly expressed their disappointment at the ROS for dragging its feet on a decision over the past week, today is the first time that Ismail said the party may be de-registered.

"I am not ruling out that possibility as there is no sign of the conflict in the party being resolved", said Ismail who is on a two-day official visit to Kuching.

"Anyone who is not happy with my final decision next week can appeal to the higher authorities", he added.

Left disappointed

Last week, the rivals in the party were eagerly waiting for the fate of the party to be made known during Ismail's visit to Kuching today. But they were left disappointed when he did not come out with a final decision.

It is believed that the Kuching visit was to meet leaders of the two factions personally to notify them of his decision on the fate of the party. Although Ismail avoided reporters' queries on his meetings with the two factions today, it is learnt he had made known his decision to them.

More than a month ago, after internal leadership squabbles led to a big split with the party effectively having two presidents, the ROS sent show-cause letters to incumbent president James Wong Kim Min and his purported successor William Mawan as to why the party should not be de-registered.

Mawan and his team's secretary general, Dr Judson Tagal, were seen leaving the state ROS office in Jalan Simpang Tiga in Kuching.

However, there was no sign of the other faction leaders led by incumbent president James Wong.
