Tharmendran's family opens account for donations

The expressions of support for air force sergeant N Tharmendran are not lost on his family who have set up a bank account to accept donations to pay for his RM150,000 bail.
The expressions of support for air force sergeant N Tharmendran are not lost on his family who today opened a bank account to accept donations to pay for his RM150,000 bail.
Human rights lawyer N Surendran, representing Tharmendran (right), said the family welcomes all the help they can get from the public.
“The family is very grateful for the support from Malaysians,” Surendran said.
“The father is happy because now he feels he can finally see light at the end of the tunnel in getting his son out of remand.”
He added that the family is prepared to return any excess funds to donors of large sums.
The family also pledged to donate to charity at the end of Tharmendran’s trial any balance from the donations.

On July 19, Tharmendran will face charges surrounding two fighter jet engines allegedly stolen from a RMAF depot in Sungai Besi.
Two days ago, Malaysiakini highlighted the plight of Tharmendran’s family who were forced to consider selling their house to raise the bail amount.
Malaysiakini readers, moved by the report, came forward in support and asked for details of a bank account via which they could send donations to the family.
Such donations can now be banked into CIMB Bank account number 0506 0180 005 525, a joint account held by Tharmendran’s elder brother Nagarajah Nadeson and a family friend, Vathumalai Appadurai.
