Kelantan MCA wants party president, Dr Chua Soi Lek, to nominate a member from Kelantan as senator to replace Alex Wong, whose term expires in August.
Kelantan MCA chief Dr Ng Yen Yen (right) said there was a need for a party member from Kelantan as a senator as the Kelantan MCA did not have a representative in the state assembly or parliament to represent the Chinese community in the state.
"Here, there is no Chinese elected representative like in other states. So, we urge MCA president to nominate someone from Kelantan," she told reporters after chairing the state MCA liaison meeting in Kota Bharu last night.
MCA's regulations require a party member who is appointed a senator to hold the post for only one term or three years, unless appointed as minister or deputy minister.
Ng, who is tourism minister, said it was decided at last night's meeting that Kelantan MCA would hold its annual general meeting on July 30 at the Kelantan Chinese Chambers of Commerce hall.
She also said that an exercise to get MCA members in Kelantan to register as voters would be carried out soon.
"In Kelantan, MCA has 12,000 registered members and about 1,000 of them are not registered voters yet," she added.
