Anwar Ibrahim was today  allowed to add Anifah Aman's name in his capacity as foreign minister as a defendant in his RM100 million defamation suit against the minister.

Kuala Lumpur High Court senior assistant registrar Nooradura Mohamed Din granted Anwar's application to amend the statement of claim to add Anifah's name.

Previously, Anwar only named the foreign minister as defendant without specificially mentioning Anifah.

With the amendment, Anwar is suing Anifah in his personal capacity as Kimanis member of parliament and as the foreign minister and the third defendant is the Malaysian government.

On May 27 last year, Anwar filed the suit following a May 16 joint news conference by Anifah and United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington in which Anifah said Anwar had offered him the post of deputy prime minister if he were to set up a government on Sept 16, 2008.

Anwar also claimed that Anifah had defamed him by saying that he was attempting to buy over MPs and was tarnishing the country's image.

Counsel Karpal Singh and SN Nair represented Anwar, while K Vasanthi appeared for Anifah in his personal capacity and senior federal counsel Amarjeet Singh, for Anifah as foreign minister and the government.

Nair said the suit was fixed for next case management.
