Overlapping claims of ownership over a parcel of land measuring 169 x 37 metres nearby the Bolton Industrial Park near Selayang caused 300 residents from around the area to stage a peaceful protest demonstration there today.

The land was originally said to have been given to bumiputera construction company Dynasty Symphony Sdn Bhd under temporary occupation licence (TOL) by the Selayang Muncipal Council (MPS) to build five foodstall lots and a car wash.

Dynasty Symphony's managing director Husaini Sulaiman told Bernama that the TOL was valid from 2005 till 2008, and was renewed by MPS two months ago.

However, earlier this year, MPS was alleged to have given the land to a MPS council member Lim Ching How to build a religious-based welfare home.

Unhappy with the development, some 300 residents from the outlying villages of Kg Nakhoda, Kg Laksamana and Kg Bahtera together with members of right wing NGOs Pekida and Perkasa held a peaceful demonstration in the area from 11am till 1pm before being dispersed by police.

Husaini said he and Lim had lodged separate police reports on the overlapping claims at the Batu Caves police station at 1.30pm.

He also expressed dissapointment with MPS over the alleged debacle, saying he had spent RM280,000 just on documentation for the land.

Meanwhile, MPS president Zainal Abidin Azim, when contacted, said the council would be calling a meeting as soon as possible to get to the bottom of the matter.
