Legal action continues despite deportation
Lawyer for US terror suspect Ahmed Ibrahim Bilal today filed a fresh habeas corpus application at the Penang High Court to declare his detention illegal despite the fact that Ahmed had already been deported to the United States this morning.
Darshan Singh Khaira, who was only aware of his client's deportation after the legal action, insisted that his application will be heard on Saturday.
"After finding out from reporters at 3:30pm that my client was already deported, I approached the judge who said that we shall see the consequences at Saturday's hearing," he said.
Darshan added that a representative from the Attorney-General's Chambers who was present said that he did not know whether Ahmed had been deported.

Wanted in US
Darshan also told malaysiakini that he planned to file another application tomorrow to have the deportation declared illegal.
"If the court finds the deportation to be illegal, the Malaysian government should be ordered to make representation to the United States for Ahmed to be brought back to the country," he said
Earlier today, Darshan through a letter to the Kuala Lumpur High Court withdrew his habeas corpus application which was filed Tuesday.
The lawyer said the withdrawal was requested by Ahmed's parents who said they lacked faith and confidence in the proceedings in Kuala Lumpur High Court.
His parents, who are living in Saudi Arabia, also directed him to file a fresh application.
Waging war charges
Ahmed was deported this morning after the Malaysian authorities handed him over to US authorities following the revocation of his US passport.
He is wanted by the US government for allegedly "waging war against the United States".
Ahmed faces charges that he, with five others, conspired to fight against the US, provided material support and resources to al-Qaeda, and to contribute services to al-Qaeda and the Taliban. He also faces firearms charges.
Ahmed had arrived in Malaysia in January and registered to study for a degree in Quran Sunnah at the International Islamic University in Selangor.
