The Kedah Royal Family Association (PKDK) has lodged a protest against the action of the PAS state assemblyperson, Nasir Mustafa, in questioning the power of the Sultan of Kedah as the head of Islamic religion in the state during the state assembly sitting yesterday.

The question was an insult to the Sultan of Kedah, said PKDK president Datuk Tengku Zainol Rashid Tengku Yahya.

He pointed out that the power of the Sultan of Kedah as the head of the Islamic religion in the state was enshrined in the state constitution and could not be disputed or questioned by anyone, including an elected representative.

The state assembly sitting yesterday became heated when Nasir (assemblyperson for Kubang Rotan) posed a question which was considered as questioning the power of the Sultan of Kedah.

Speaker Dr Abdul Isa Ismail was forced to retract Nasir's two questions on the matter.

Nasir had asked to what extent the power of the sultan as the head of Islamic religion in the state was respected by the federal government.

Nasir also asked what limitations the state government had in the administration of Islamic affairs.

Tengku Zainol Rashid told a press conference today that as long as the questions were not retracted by the Kubang Rotan Assemblyman, it would remain in the record of the State Assembly.
