DPM concedes BN's machinery faces uphill task

An uphill battle awaits the BN machinery in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election as it is facing the opposition which is in control of the state government, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Urging the BN election machinery to work hard, he said, BN election campaigners need to read the attitude of voters and report the situation every day.
"We need a firm attitude as the state government will use all means to retain the seat. It is an uphill task for us. So we cannot take it easy in our endeavour.
“We need to ensure that each step of the way is effective, do not waste time. We can talk but the outcome must show results," he said when introducing BN candidate P Kamalanathan to the election machinery after the nomination at Kuala Kubu Bahru here today.
Present were BN Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election director Noh Omar and MIC president S Samy Vellu.
Muhyiddin said the BN strategic manoeuvre was to ensure that all steps must be taken to win the hearts of voters in Hulu Selangor.
Voters are ‘kings’
Reminding the party machinery that the voters were 'kings', he said the campaigners must be able to persuade the voters to vote in BN's favour.
"It is an obligation and responsibility of each one of us to ensure that every voter Hulu Selangor cast his or her vote for BN.
"This means that we need to focus on strategies to win the heart of every voter irrespective of whether he or she is a Malay, Chinese, an Indian or an Orang Asli.
"Our responsibility is to make sure that we capture their hearts to support our candidate," he added.
He said the party machinery should stay focus and not look back at the past problems as the BN had enough issues to fend off every attack from the opposition.
He said opposition leaders especially PKR adviser Anwar Ibrahim would create issues to deviate the people from his party internal conflict.
Muhyiddin also reminded the campaigners to maintain cordial relations among BN component parties.
Take your wife on campaign trail
Turning to P Kamalanathan, he wanted the BN candidate to visit every area in the constituency, which was as big as Malacca, in the eight-day campaign.
Muhyiddin also urged Kamalanathan to take along his wife, S Shobana in his campaign trail.
Meanwhile, Kamalanathan, in his speech, promised to work in the interest of the people and listen to their grievances.
"I may not be an expert but you can make me one, I may not be an outstanding person but you can make me one.
"Let me have the opportunity to get to know you better. I humbly plead to you not to vote for me because I am Kamalanathan but rather vote for me because I am a BN candidate.
"I am a 1Malaysia candidate. I am a candidate who is representing the prime minister and I am a candidate who aspire to represent you," he added.
