On the BN side, MIC president S Samy Vellu, Perak speaker R Ganesan and fellow party leader P Panchamorthy snagged themselves onto the barb wire placed to separate Pakatan and BN supporters.
Samy was passing through the narrow opening at the barricade leading to the nomination centre when the excited crowd led him to trip onto the wires. 
He sustained injuries on his leg, while the other two leaders who had attempted to break his fall, ended up with large bandages on their hands.
"I grabbed Samy on the right and Ganesan held his left hand," said Panchamorthy, who is also MIC Federal Territory state secretary.
But Samy is nothing if not resilient, and brushed off the hurt as "a small thing".
Two other BN leaders also sustained injuries in the "stampede" - Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal and Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Deputy Minister M Saravanan.
Police, trucks, and still helpless
Interestingly, they shared that this was the first time they had hurt themselves while campaigning in their lengthy political careers.
The rising Hulu Selangor mid-morning temperature caused tempers to boil in the supporter camps, which led to the battle of pebbles and water bottles.
The incident happened when about 5,000 Pakatan supporters found a way around the barb wires to barely 20 meters away from their opponents.
While police were quick to form barricades between the two groups with their trucks, the slogan war turned ugly among the small pockets of supporters. 
As a result, a DAP supporter is expected to lodge a police report after he sustained a gash on his head.
The BN, too, walked away limping as one of its supporter (right) was sent to hospital to have his injuries tended to, said BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin. He received six stitches.

Day one of campaigns also saw a slew of verbal insults, ranging from witty retorts to straight up expletives in several Malaysian languages.
Many off-colour references to PKR de facto leader's sodomy charge were thrown the Pakatan way. 
In response, Pakatan gave a ‘creative' explanation of what PPP (officially, People's Progressive Party) actually stands for.
In the heat of the moment, one Pakatan supporter went as far as unzipping his pants while a BN supporter found another way to express his feelings.
Slamming the incidents, Election Commission chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said his commission had already warned the parties against such behaviour.
"We had advised them not to bring too many people, but they don't care. I reminded them to maintain discipline, follow police instructions, not to insult each other and behave.
"So what else can the EC do? We can only give advice," he said.
