Pornthip pressured to bow out of Teoh's inquest

Spmanan: The Umno government has already decided this is how the game plan is to be. Be it brutal murder or suicide, I really don't see any rationale in the government's effort to cover this up. Why not just let the truth prevails.

Let's just wait and see. May be for all you know - for every of their action, there is an equal opposite reaction.

Multi Racial: Why would they want to stop Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand from testifying? In stopping Dr Pornthip, it is an admission that they killed Teoh. Otherwise, why would you want to hide the truth?

I feel sorry for Teoh Beng Hock's family. But I am a strong believer that the truth will eventually be out. Those guilty will have to pay the price, and it can come in many forms. Those who assisted in the cover up will also have to pay the price.

On behalf of Malaysians, I would like to thank Dr Pornthip for her contribution in the Teoh inquest. We fully understand that in this imperfect world there are many evil men who will go to great lengths to do evil things.

Geronimo: By intimidating Dr Pornthip, and indirectly preventing her from entering the country, it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this Umno government is as guilty as hell. Now is the time for Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim and his team to take it up to the next level.

Ong Guan Sin: It is only in the best interest of BN government to ensure safe passage and presence of Dr Pornthip in the TBH (Teoh Beng Hock) inquest. Failing that, there is only one conclusion: someone higher up is indeed guilty of TBH's death and is doing everything possible to intervene in the inquest.

Bert: Is this the kind of justice that Prime Minister Najib Razak is talking about in 1Malaysia? The government talks about transparency. Is this transparency? We want to know the truth. Why are the authorities covering it up? What are they afraid of? This is a sad day for Malaysian justice.

Loyal Malaysian: Dr Pornthip said: "From my experience, sometimes there is a limit as to how far we can go to bring about justice."

So the limit has been reached in the TBH case. The best chance for an independent forensic expert opinion is now sacrificed on the altar of political pressure. I certainly hope TBH's family and the Selangor state government's counsels have a plan for this development. The MACC must be brought to account for its actions.

Doc: It looks like Umno has resorted to begging our neighbour to the north to put pressure on their own citizen, Dr Pornthip, not to continue testifying in the Teoh Beng Hock inquest. Let's face it; with or without Pornthip's testimony, the damage to MACC and Umno has been done.

Peoples Power: Is this is what Malaysia is all about? Will this happen if some Umno member was Teoh? I really feel sorry for PM Najib. He must be having a hard time doing the balancing act and at the same time keeping his seat.

Black Mamba: Dr Pornthip, we totally believed you. When immigration records can be erased, C4 taken out from ammunition depot without a trace, comics confiscated (only comic magazines which feature a prominent politician's girlfriend), affidavits changed overnight through threats, people flying off building while in custody, innocent bystanders shot in raids, suspects murdered while in detention, pro-ruling party lawyers obtained speedy injunction in less than 24 hours while the opposition MB's applications queued for months, we have seen it all in Malaysia.

We can relate to what you saying about the effort to hamper your testimony through subtle messages relayed through the foreign missions.

Ramachandran Muniandy: I feel Teoh's defence team should request for the inquest to be held in Bangkok. During Eric Chia's case, the whole team went to Hong Kong, so why can't they request the judge to go to Bangkok?

Gk: Dr Pornthip, we understand your limitation, but it is enough for us that you stand by your findings. Let those involved face their creator when the time comes. We are now convinced how evil the current regime is. Trash them into dustbin in the next general election.

Amaso: Remember PM Najib met Teoh's parents in his office and vowed to find out the truth? And now Dr Pornthip is "advised" not to come here to testify.

 

Nazri says Pornthip 'a liar'

Cala: We learn early in life that there is no smoke without a fire. In the same vein, lallang would not sway if there is no wind. Anyway, would you believe what Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz has to say about Dr Pornthip being a liar, or would you rather believe in Malaysiakini's report that there is an underhand element at work bent at stopping her from testifying in the autopsy?

Harry Koay: Nazri never stop surprising us with his comments about anything including this one. Nazri, please stop embarrassing yourself by issuing such a stupid statement for the sake of our country's reputation.

Ninja Bradley: It just amazes me how a person of minister level could consciously lie and slander others just to toe the government's line. These ministers are in so deep that they are oblivious of the fact that they have no integrity or conscience. Staying in power and money are the most important aspects of their value system.

It astonishes me that the people would vote for such a government. It is equally baffling that the ‘conscience' and ‘moral keepers' of BN, like Gerakan and MCA, can live with this sort of politics. I cannot imagine the members of MCA and Gerakan can be so lack of values.

Steven Wong: Nazri said: "As you very well know, today with the Internet and everything, it would be suicidal for the Malaysian government to stop her from testifying."

Well, it would be suicidal for Malaysian government if they did it officially but Dr Pornthip said "informal" channels. I think most, if not all, Malaysians in this country know that this BN-led government can, and has done, many things "informally". So, Nazri, stop talking nonsense. We know what this government is capable of.

Tkc: When the news first broke, Nazri insinuated that the late Teoh jumped off the building. Now he accused Dr Pornthip of lying. Nazri reminds me of the Winston Wolfe character in the ‘Pulp Fiction' movie whose job was to clean up someone else's mess.

Quigonbond: Between Dr Pornthip and Nazri, who has been in the witness stand being grilled more often? I'd place my bet on the doctor anytime.

Now, who's lying? No one of the right mind will believe that the Thai government would want to stop the doctor from helping out like a good neighbour if not for some deals struck between the Malaysian and Thai governments. Is Thai government interfering with our reform now?

Michael Ng: Nazri, if you said that she lied about being pressured, why don't the government issue a public guarantee that she will not be hindered when she comes to Malaysia at our immigration? That would put to rest all the critics of the government.

Ong Twee Kwan: LKS (Lim Kit Siang) is right - the majority of Malaysians irrespective of race do not believe that Teoh committed suicide, especially when he was to get married and his child was on the way.

It's now up to the Malaysian government to prove that the MACC is independent and was not involved in the alleged suicide. So far the two police reports made by MACC officers against Dr Pornthip has increased the suspicion that MACC was involved, and the government is covering it up.

So irrespective whether Dr Pornthip is lying or not, the government should sent an invitation to the good doctor to come and give evidence. This will show the sincerity of the government to get to the bottom of this issue instead of trying to discredit the doctor in the media.
