Lai (right) personally handed over the memorandum to Khalid during a dinner organised by Pakatan Rakyat at a Chinese restaurant in the small town.

Khalid gave the assurance that the villagers’ TOL applications would be facilitated.

"But this will not be done in just two weeks," he said.

Earlier in his speech, Khalid said that he had come to listen to whatever complaints the villagers had.

Switching to campaign mode, he also briefly explained the achievements of the Selangor government during his two years’ stint as mentri besar.

"In two years, we have achieved what (BN) has failed to do in 50 years," he said.

He pointed the Selangor government’s decision for residents in the state not to be charged for the first 20 cubic metres cubic of water and its distribution of RM2,500 aid to the family of deceased persons.

Higher tariffs if BN wins?

If BN wins the coming by-election, he warned, water tariff would be higher if BN wins the coming by-election.

khalid ibrahim at selangor pkr convention 15112009Khalid said this is because the state government would fail to wrest control of state water concessionaires Syabas and Puncak Niaga.

"But most importantly, (Syabas executive director) Tan Sri Rozali (Ismail) is the treasurer of Umno in Selangor.

"If we let them (BN) win, he will take back the company, (water charges) would be higher.

"(Water) is the people's asset, not owned by one or two people only," he said.

About 450 villagers attended the function tonigt, together with Chua Jui Meng and Pakatan assemblymen Gan Pei Nei and Lee Kim Sin.
