Kuala Kubu Baru assemblyperson, Wong Koon Mun (left) of the MCA who aired this view pointed to Chua's triumph in the party's polls as proof that the scandal will not be factor for the Chinese community to abandon the BN this time around.
Drawing a parallel with Selangor exco, Elizabeth Wong's case of leaked intimate photos, the Kuala Kubu Baru assembly person said that Chua was equally a victim in the sex DVD scandal.
He said this in response to a question of the possibility of the DAP raising the issue against the BN when met at his service centre in Kuala Kubu Baru yesterday.
"(Opposition Leader) Anwar Ibrahim is not blamed by supporters for the alleged sodomy scandal. Why?" he retorted.
Wong, who was recently elected central committee member in the party elections, said that he is confident of a win by the BN candidate.
"In 2008, we (state assemblypersons) had jointly receive 6,176 votes in the three state constituencies."
Kuala Kubu Baru, Batang Kali and Hulu Bernam are the three state constituencies that fall within Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency.
The Hulu Selangor by-election follows the death of its PKR incumbent, Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
Local candidate factor
Wong also emphasised the importance of the candidate being a local as candidate as Hulu Selangor was a rural seat.
Comparing MIC's proposed candidate G Palanivel with PKR's Dr Halili Rahmat, he pointed out that while the latter was local born, he lives in Shah Alam whereas Palanivel has a home in the constituency.
On the issues of concern to the people, Wong said that theirs was more local rather than national.
With the Chinese community, Wong felt that the two issues closest to their heart are the state of the economy and security.
As for the Indians, his view is that they will be unhappy if Palanivel is not selected as previously the MIC held the seat.
