A bomb scare at Dewan Tunku Canselor in Universiti Malaya this morning caused the Certificate in Legal Practice examination scheduled today to be postponed to Sept 12.

A candidate K S Nathan told malaysiakini that candidates waiting to sit for the professional practice paper were told to evacuate the hall about 10 minutes before the examination was supposed to start at 9am upon announcement by the examiners that there might be a bomb in the vicinity.

Asked who received the bomb threat call, Nathan said he was informed that it was made to the security office.

He claimed that the candidates were left in a lurch for more than an hour as neither the CLP nor UM officials had informed them of further development.

No clue on incident

"We were a bit annoyed on how the CLP officials had dealt with the incident. The students were scattered around the area with no clue as to what was happening. It was only at 10.30am that they told us it was a hoax and that the exam had been deferred for 10 days," he said.

While some may welcomed the postponement, Nathan said that there are also many who preferred to get it done and over with.

Bar Council president Mah Weng Kwai and an official from the CLP director's office were present when the postponement announcement was made.

The professional practice paper was the second last paper before the paper on evidence law scheduled for Sept 9.
