The recent spate of PKR MP defections and threat of future defections - while in themselves are a worrying sign of inherent weaknesses - are being correctly brushed off by most Malaysians as being the result of mainly greed and discontent of the defectors.

As many have pointed out, it is the right time for PKR and Pakatan Rakyat to weed out those not committed to the cause and except for one or two exceptional personalities, the 'jumpers' will have no political future and will be very lucky to fielded in the next elections.

In fact, it will make no difference to the opposition front as their main aim and cause are still intact despite the dwindling numbers of representatives and they will emerge stronger after this self-purge.

Prior to the last elections, the joke was that BN had only to turn up in some constituencies and they would win hands down even if they fielded a monkey.

However in the last general elections, the abhorrence of the ruling party resulted in the tables being turned and PKR and Pakatan had the same luxury where they could have fielded anyone and they still would have won and win they did.

BN is deluding itself if they think the defections will change the mood on the ground when it is only showing itself to want power at any cost by trying to entice the unhappy ones.

Their political shenanigans will only strengthen the resolve of those who voted for the opposition and push the fence-sitters away.

To win the next elections, BN has to win the people’s hearts and minds and this can only be done with sincerity in their words and actions and not treating us as stupid followers. Surely the big picture is not about toppling the Pakatan state governments and getting their MPs to turn.

Perhaps this is beyond them now and if they carry on this way, Anwar Ibrahim and company will just have to sit back and watch the great BN self-destruct at the next general elections.
