Unlike previous Perak state assembly sittings, there will be no heavy security when the assembly convenes on March 30, said Perak assembly speaker R Ganesan.

Ganesan told Malaysiakini that he expect the sitting to be held "as usual".

NONE"There will be no need for extra security as I do not foresee any trouble," he said laughing off the idea of metal detectors as unnecessary.

This is a complete opposite of the October 2009 sitting where large numbers of police personnel were guarding the state secretariat building.

Roads leading to the building were even cordoned off the night before while state assemblypersons were frisked and scanned with metal detectors before entering the house.

There was also a human shield (below right) around Ganesan's seat, believed to be in place to prevent ousted speaker V Sivakumar from making a dash for the seat.

The sitting also recorded numerous supporters and members of the opposition party being arrested.

NONEGanesan further assured Malaysiakini that media will be allowed to attend the sitting.

"However, it will be subjected to availability of space," he said.

Three oral and five written questions are called to be submitted by the March 15.

"I expect all state assemblypersons to act responsibly and to follow the rules," he added.

He said the agenda for the sitting had yet to be confirmed.

Pakatan assemblypersons are expected to meet this Friday and resolve during the evening their plans for the sitting.
