K'tan should generate income instead of exporting workers

Kelantan should generate income and open up job opportunities for the locals instead of exporting its people to the other states to look for work.
Deputy Finance Minister Senator Awang Adek Hussin said the migration of the Kelantan people to the other states to look for work could be clearly seen during the festive seasons when the Kelantanese who were working outside the state returned to their respective hometowns
Kelantan should generate income and open up job opportunities for the locals instead of exporting its people to the other states to look for work.
Deputy Finance Minister Senator Awang Adek Hussin said the migration of the Kelantan people to the other states to look for work could be clearly seen during the festive seasons when the Kelantanese who were working outside the state returned to their respective hometowns.
"Government-linked companies must take the initiative to generate income for the state and open up job opportunities to the people of Kelantan so that the state will no longer export its people to the other states," he said in his speech at the launching of the TMPoint TM Authorised Dealership in Kota Bharu , Kelantan, today.
In addition, he said, economic activities in the state were rather slow compared to the other states as seen from the tax collection by the Royal Customs.
"Just look at the business situation in Kelantan which is lethargic, with tax collection including sales tax and service tax which is low at about RM34 million, compared with the other states whose tax collections reach billions of ringgit annually," he said.
Awang said in terms of tourism, out of the approximately 25 million tourists who came to Malaysia each year, only 700,000 or three per cent of them came to Kelantan.
Meanwhile, referring to the launch of the first premises of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) in Kelantan, namely TMPoint TM Authorised Dealership (TAD), he described it as an opportunity for the Kelantan people and entrepreneurs to generate business.
