Yet another political satire cartoon book by Zulkiflee Anwar Haque, better known by his pen name Zunar, was confiscated by Penang police last week.
When contacted, Zulkiflee (left) said he has yet to ascertain the total number of books seized but confirmed that 15 were seized from two book stores in Kepala Batas.
“I have also come to know that the police seized an unknown number of books from Bukit Mertajam and Butterworth,” he said.
He said the raid was led by Chief Inspector Mohd Noor Azlan Mansor from the Seberang Perai police station. Malaysiakini was unable to reach him for comments despite repeated attempts.
The book titled Isu dalam kartun is a compilation of the works of various artists on current affairs issues such as the scandal over missing fighter jet engines, the controversy over the use of the term ‘Allah’ and the impending implementation of the Goods and Services Tax.
The book cover draws attention to the book's two items Sumpah di bumi komisen (Oath in the world of kickbacks) and Dari PD ke Mongoria (From PD to Mongoria) which takes a dig at top government figures.
Previously, Zulkiflee’s other works - 1Funny Malaysia and magazine Gedung Kartun - were also seized by the Home Ministry. No action has been taken against the publishers.
Recently, the authorities had also confiscated copies of the book Where is Justice?, which details alleged police abuse, and Malaysian Politicians Say the Darndest Things (Vol 2), a compilation of local political quotes.
