On Tuesday, Jan 19, at 5.45 pm, I stopped at the Petronas station a few kilometers away from the LCCT (Low-Cost Carrier Terminal) in Sepang after picking my sister.

As I was filling up the car with petrol, a plainclothes policeman walked up to me, identified himself, asked for my MyKad, and requested that I follow him to the toilet for a urine test.

Yes, he, and a fellow-policeman who walked up to us later, were very polite and apologetic, claiming that they were only doing their job during the operation – selecting customers at random to be tested for drug abuse.

That I was why I cooperated. Besides, I had nothing to fear because I do not even smoke cigarettes.

Nevertheless, I did feel annoyed, humiliated and embarrassed at being indiscriminately selected and troubled.

I would not have felt so if it had been one of those operations where everyone was subjected to the drug test, but to be picked up at random in a public place is outrageous.

I would like to record my protest at being treated such. The police force should review its operations conducted by its anti-narcotics unit so as not to cause unnecessary discomfort to the rakyat.
