The son of the late DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock was born at 8am today at the Batu Pahat Hospital, Johor.

soh cher wei 02 “Both mother (Soh Cher Wei, 28, right ) and son, who weighs 2.9kg, are well,” said Teoh's younger sister Lee Lan, when contacted.

She declined to divulge further details.

Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching, who was at the hospital, said the family has yet to decide on the baby's name.

“The family will follow up with the National Registration Department (NRD) on the registration (of birth),” Teo said.

Family lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, who is also Puchong MP, has also promised to help with the registration.

MCA Youth secretary-general Chai Kim Sen, meanwhile, also offered the wing's assistance in the registration of Teoh's son if needed.

Though Teoh and Soh's marriage had not been officially registered, the authorities should exercise discretion in the matter on humanitarian grounds, said Chai in a statement.

According to Sin Chew Daily news alert, meanwhile, NRD director-general Alwi Ibrahim was reported as saying the authority will allow Teoh's name to be stated in the birth certificate as the baby's father, given that it is a "special case".

azlan Teoh, 30, an aide to Selangor exco Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on July 16 last year, the morning after being questioned at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Plaza Massalam, Shah Alam.

He was due to register his marriage with Soh on July 17.

While the family alleges that Teoh's death involved foul play, the authorities have maintained that he had fallen to his death.

An inquest is underway. 

Renowned Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand took the stand last year, and stated her belief that there was an 80 percent chance that Teoh's death was a case of homocide. This has since been disputed by a government pathologist.
