A member of the Selangor royalty was charged with criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM1.15 million at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court today.

Tengku Mohd Kamil Tengku Shahrudin Shah, 61, is the uncle of the Selangor sultan.

A director of a construction company, he is accused of committing CBT between 2005 and 2006.

He was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, with possible whipping and a fine upon conviction of each charge.

According to deputy public prosecutor S Devanandan, the company's auditor is the complainant in the case.

"The company Aneka Melor Sdn Bhd is a Class A contractor and the defendant is still serving on the board," he continued.

The prosecution will call 12 witnesses during the trial.

Jugde Rozina Ayob allowed bail of RM40,000 with one surety and ordered Tengku Mohd Kamil's passport to be surrendered to the court.

However, the passport that was surrendered had expired and the judge has asked for a declaration from the Immigration Department that the accused does not have any other passports.

The hearing has been fixed for May 17-20.
