The 2010 Umno general assembly will be held from Oct 28-30, Prime Minister Najib Razak said.

He said the date was decided by the Umno supreme council at a meeting today.

Najib, who is Umno president, said the branch meetings would be held from May 1 to June 15 while the divisional delegates' meetings and those of the three party wings - Youth, Wanita and Puteri - would be held from June 16 to July 16.

Najib said the party's management committee and Umno offices would update the party's membership list to determine the actual number of Umno members.

He reminded Umno leadership at all levels to facilitate applications for new membership and to strive to register new members.

"The exercise to update Umno membership at the divisional level is scheduled to be completed on March 10, afterwhich the list will be displayed and be finalised by the division between March 15 and April 5," he said.

"The list will then be submitted to Umno headquarters from April 6 to 15," he told reporters after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting, the first for this year, at the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, Najib said the 'Juara Rakyat' (Champion of the People) programme, launched recently, would be expanded.

As a follow up, he said, the programme would be held in Kedah from Feb 5-7, to be launched Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Najib said the meeting today also took note of the initiatives contained in the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) roadmap and the proposal to introduce a new economic model.

"The supreme council has given several inputs to the government's programme for consideration," he said.
