The PAS disciplinary committee has slapped its vocal parliamentarian Khalid Samad with a six month suspension effective today as the party's Shah Alam division head and political bureau member.

The Shah Alam MP landed in trouble for publicly criticising Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali and disclosing classified information on his blog.

The committee also gave Hasan a written warning.

The Selangor PAS chief and state exco was hauled up for publicly attacking the state government on the Select Committee on Competency, Accountability & Transparency (Selcat) issue and the appointment of Liow Siew Moi as the head of PKNS.

NONEIn announcing the decision, committee chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the duo have been instructed to refrain from making any statements that could jeopardise PAS or Pakatan Rakyat.

He added that both of them could appeal within 30 days.

Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Tuan Ibrahim said that Khalid had committed a "more serious offence" compared to Hasan.

"He had even confessed during investigations that his actions could have an (adverse) impact on the party. Classified information (on party meetings) cannot be revealed to the public," he said.

However, Khalid was not present at the meeting as he is currently in Saudi Arabia.

In a SMS to Malaysiakini, the PAS MP said he would decide on whether to appeal or not when he returns to the country on Feb 12.

'This should serve as a lesson'

Meanwhile, committee member Wan Mutalib Wan Embong in explaining the action taken against Hasan, said: "Although he (Hasan) is not a member of Selcat and Selcat is independent of the exco. We however decided that Selcat is formed by the state government."

"So whatever matters pertaining to Selcat must be brought to the exco meeting and not outside (of this avenue)," he added.

On Hasan's criticisms concerning Liow, Wan Mutalib said the appointment is the prerogative of Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

"If the exco disagree, than the matter should be settled with the MB and not through the newspapers and beyond the knowledge of the menteri besar," he added.   

azlanTuan Ibrahim hoped that the action taken against the two Selangor PAS leaders would serve as a lesson for others.

Instead of internal squabbles, he said, party leaders should focus their efforts in facing the next general election.

"If there is dissatisfaction, use the party channels," he added.

Hasan Ali, who was present at the meeting, said he accepted the decision with an open heart.

"This is an educational process for me and the decision (warning letter) would not hinder my work as a PAS member, exco and Gombak Setia assemblyperson," he told reporters.
