The Selangor state panel, which heard the objections to the PJ local plan draft(1) today, has given a verbal undertaking to Section 5 residents that proposed road works would not be implemented in the neighbourhood.

Section 5 residents' association president Edward Lee said he was happy with the news that the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council would leave the roads as they are. The council had suggested improvements under the draft local plan.

"We has been told that the three main roads — Jalan 5/ 4, 5/ 13 and 5/ 46 — would not be widened since the residents have expressed concern about this," he said.

"The panel told me this would be confirmed in writing when the whole hearing has been completed. However, more study will be carried out over the proposal to widen Jalan Gasing."

Unlike other residents, Lee said the hearing had been held in a friendly atmosphere with his 20-member delegation being given adequate time to voice their objections to the draft local plan.

The association had submitted a 26-pages memorandum to the panel before the afternoon session of the hearing started. Eight of the members were allowed 90 minutes to explain their views.
