An explosion occurred today at a palm oil mill near Setiu, and a Bangladeshi worker is believed to have been killed and two other workers seriously injured.

The blast occurred at the Felda-owned Chalok mill at about 1pm when a contractor was welding a gas conduit, said an eye-witness Hariri Salahhuddin, 35.

"I was in a lorry and a friend was unloading oil palm bunches from the vehicle.

Suddenly, I heard a loud explosion and saw a man getting hurled out of the mill. I ran to safety," he told reporters at the scene.

It is learnt that the body has been taken to the Setiu district hospital and the injured workers have been sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.

The identities of the workers have yet to be revealed and the police have yet to release any statement.
