If and when a snap polls are held in the Silver State, not only are Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin and his Pakatan colleagues ready, but I believe a lot of Perakians are also ready to boot out the illegal state government from their position.
But it will not be an easy victory as BN with all the government machinery at its disposal will use every trick in the book to retain power at any cost. One of the main reasons why snap polls should be held is to ‘legitimise’ the present BN government led by Umno menteri besar Zamry Abdul Kadir who had grabbed power from the previous state government by illegal means.
Temperatures are rising in the Silver State as local voters there do not regard the present state leaders as the ones they elected during the last polls. Pakatan MB Nizar and his Pakatan colleagues have won public affection due to their fair and just rules which do not discriminate against any community at the expense of others.
Corruption and abuse of power which were prevalent during BN previous rule in the Silver State have been greatly reduced during Pakatan’s one year in office before they were toppled illegally by BN’s manipulations.
What had happened in Perak was a tragedy as the people there were denied their inherent right to elect leaders of their choice to lead the state. Democratic principles where the majority rules were ignored in the Silver State where a minority BN government with the help of three turncoats managed to oust the legally-elected state government by illegal means.
The last straw must have been when the Pakatan speaker was dragged out of the august house by force from the speaker’s chair and replaced with the unelected speaker nominated by BN with the help of the three ‘independent’ reps.
From the latest MACC action in Selangor where a sand scandal has seen several politicians’ aides being remand, one can only conclude that the state government in Selangor is under siege too. Was it just coincidence that a few Kuala Selangor PKR division heads headed by Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim resigned from office due to their lack of confidence in the MB?
Something is brewing in Selangor and if the state government is not careful, the same fate which befell Perak might happen in Selangor too. Don’t underestimate the BN government determination to reverse their fortunes by any means after their rejection by voters during the last general election.
BN seems to be at it wits end as how to win back popular support. All their efforts to re-brand their image seems to fall short as people nowadays can see and read. Give credit to the people who can see the big picture.
While one does not condon any corrupt practices by those holding the fort, one cannot understand why only leaders from the opposition fronts seem to be under the MACC’s microscope .
Meanwhile, ‘big whales’ who ripped off millions of public funds while in office seem to escape punishment by the authorities. Government agencies which are suppose to fight graft and white- collar crimes are selective in their investigations and their head honchos seems to be working for their political bosses rather than for the taxpayers actually who pay their salaries.
