Barisan Nasional candidate for the Anak Bukit state seat Zakaria Said was accused of assaulting a Keadilan party worker this morning.

The incident occurred in the premises of Sekolah Menengah Sri Gunung polling centre in Anak Bukit, Kedah.

Zakaria was said to have throttled Lin Chew Man, a party worker from Perak.

Lin had tried to lodge a police report at about 11.30am but was asked to undergo a medical check-up first.

It was confirmed at press time that he managed to lodge a report after returning from the Alor Setar hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, Zakaria was doing his rounds at the polling centre and had approached Lin upon seeing him carrying a poster supporting PAS.

Zakaria was then seen grabbing Lin's neck and shouting something inaudible.

The chaos only came to an end after timely intervention from the police and other supporters.

Zakaria is up against PAS' Amiruddin Hamzah in today's contest which ended at 5.30pm. The results are expected to be announced at 8pm.
