The DAP has started gearing up for the next general elections speculated to be held with the next 18 months, for the first time with much to lose and much to gain as well.

So its appeal to members to gird themselves for battle is packed with poignancy as the call is to ensure they emerge victorious together with their Pakatan Rakyat allies.
Malaysiakini has learnt that party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (right) will be addressing the troops at the party convention in Ipoh on Sunday to drive home that point.
According to a source, the Penang chief minister will urge party members to strengthen the party's machinery for the upcoming fight.
This is because, the source said, there is much at stake for DAP; most importantly the very future of the party.
Not only does the party need tune up for the next polls, but has to also prepare for another speculated state-wide elections in Sarawak and Perak.
With this, Lim urges the leaders and members to muscle up the party's organisation at the parliamentary level so stronger units can face up to battles that will determine the country's fate.
It is believed that the DAP leader will also stress that the party's ideology should be respected by members as well as their Pakatan allies in the attempt to unhorse the Barisan Nasional by winning the voters's hearts and minds.
GE predicted for mid-2011
Lim had previously predicted the 13th general election will be held in the middle of next year.
His prediction was based on Finance Minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah's announced timing of the full implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
According to Lim, the BN leadership will be unable to hold elections once the GST is implemented as it will drive away the people's support.
It is also learnt that Lim will reveal the Pakatan's blueprint of governing at the federal level at the party convention.
While this will be his main topic for the event, Lim will also try to convince voters that DAP, along with his Pakatan partners PKR and PAS, have what it takes to helm the federal government.
In the 2008, the opposition had unprecedentedly won four states while strengthening its hold on a fifth and slashed the BN's traditional two-thirds majority in Parliament as well.
Now that Perak has slipped from their grip following the BN power grab last year, Lim is expected to set clear goals in regaining the momentum that Pakatan has lost to its rival.
