Don't copy M'sians, Indonesian Muslims told

Cala: Jakarta Post's editorial is interesting. As is widely believed even in Malaysia, the said newspaper claims that the main culprit behind a series of arson attacks on churches is the serving government. It tries to regain its lost popularity by playing with sentiments of the Muslims.

That same opinion was expressed by Umno leader Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah when he gave a talk in Singapore recently. But the PM has steadfastly denied any part it has played that led to the troubles.

Americk Sidhu: 'Puja Mandala' is situated on a hill overlooking Nusa Dua, one of the tourist hot spots of Bali. It is an incredible site. Built in 1995, this complex consists of a series of houses of worship of elaborate design and size, side by side beginning on the left with a mosque followed by a Catholic church, a Buddhist temple, a Protestant church and a Hindu temple.

All share the same car park and all worshipers respect each other's festivals and religious days, even participating at times. Google this complex for further insight. Go further and Google Earth 'Puja Mandala' to appreciate the juxtapositions of these houses of worship.

It therefore struck me as being extremely odd that the world's most populous Muslim nation is able to encourage multi-religious worship in close proximity while we are struggling with rhetorical use of a word to describe the same God. Our Indonesian cousins appear to be far superior, spiritually, than we will ever hope to be. Maybe it's in the breeding.

Multi Racial: Every foreign Muslim's comments seem consistent, regardless of whether they are from the First World or the Third. Our Muslims, or rather our Umno politicians, are the only one who see things differently. Does that means we are the worst when it come to maturity? If that so, God help us.

Call Me Jibby: Amir Muhammad once quoted an ex-minister of communication who said, "Indonesia and the Philippines do not even has enough to feed their stomach, who are they to comment us?". Now it seems those who don't even has enough food is more mature mentally compare to those who has a fulled stomach.


Anwar decries church attacks

Borneo1963: Let's hope Pakatan Rakyat leader Anwar Ibrahim can do better. Be a true leader to all Malaysians. Get rid of racial or religious discrimination, especially for any registration forms. Then we will move on from there and see what can be done.

UnkerLai: In my heart and in my prayers, Anwar is my prime minister-in-waiting. Voices of reason and logic, he will lead our nation to great heights. But first we must be rid of the racist Umno/Barisan Nasional. Only then will we see acceptance and mutual respect among us. It is the only way. Uzbek Kebzu: Don't be rhetorical Anwar! Understand the whole issue. Don't just talk about the end result and try to be the champion. Stop being politician for a minute, will you?

Dr. Jacob George: Saudara Anwar Ibrahim has been consistent and shown far better leadership than all the rest put together. So hold your horses.

Kgan: Well said, Anwar. Nothing that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak or Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has said has impressed me. The two cousins seem to be going extra soft on the perpetrators.

Have they called for Muslims to show the appropriate response? At a time when leadership is needed, they hid behind vague assurances and mild condemnation instead of hitting out at the perpetrators and calling for inter-faith tolerance. As for the other component party leaders, they seem to be waiting for their balls to grow.
