MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong today shot down allegations that he had instructed Bernama TV to stop its interview of Malaysian Anti Corruption Comission (MACC) advisory panel member Robert Phang.

"Don't simply accuse a person, this is my stern warning," he retorted in a harsh tone.

In a Star report today, Phang alleged Wee had pressured the national news agency's TV station to cut short the 'live' talk show 'Hello Malaysia' by 20 minutes aired at 10pm on Astro's Channel 502 last Friday.

Phang was a guest on the show and the topic of discussion was 'Graft and Corruption: The Diabolical Challenges Ahead.' The Sun's deputy editor Terence Fernandez was the other panelist.

NONESpeaking at a press conference, Wee (right) showed reporters a Chinese language text message that MCA's infocom had sent out asking members and central delegates to watch the programme.

The show supposedly was to be a tell-all by Phang regarding Wee's involvement in the Port Klang Free Trade Zone (PKFZ) scandal.

Wee said after receiving the SMS, he informed Bernama that he would take legal action against the "speaker and the station" if defamatory statements were made against him.

The usual re-runs of the show at 3.30am, 6.30am and 8.30am the following day were not shown and replaced with another interview.

'Sensitive issues'

Phang alleged that certain MCA party members led by Wee had exerted pressure on the producers to cancel the broadcast to prevent discussions on "sensitive issues" such as the PKFZ scandal.

NONE"No one stopped the programme, and defame a third person is not right," said Wee. He also questioned why such an SMS should be sent out through the MCA Information Bureau.

"Is he (Phang) so important? He is not even an MCA member," said Wee.

Phang (above) is the Social Care Foundation chairman and sits on the MACC advisory board.

In recent weeks, Wee and Phang have been involved in a spat where the latter accused the Youth chief of being involved in the PKFZ scandal. Wee has vehemently denied this.

Wee also lashed out at Phang for accusing him of fixing the party president's plane rides on Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd's private jets.

Phang had said that Wee, who holds a doctorate in transportation, was best qualified to replace Ong Tee Keat as he harboured ambitions of taking over the president's ministerial portfolio should the latter resign.
