Jeff Ooi hammered for 'interfering' in PKR affairs

Penang PKR Youth slammed DAP parliamentarian Jeff Ooi for undermining the credibility and professional ability of two former PKR councilors, who were dropped from this year's line-up.
Last week, Jelutong MP Ooi (right) said he was glad that Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik and Mohd Razali Abdullah have been dropped by PKR as councilors in the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) for the 2010 term.
Ooi blasted Muhammad Bakhtiar as a 'truant councillor' and Mohd Razali as a 'madman'.
However, PKR Youth chief Amir Ghazali took offence and chided Ooi for making "derogatory, shallow and foolish" remarks.
Amir also warned the DAP parliamentarian not to interfere into PKR’s affairs.
"PKR has commended both the councillors' performance and praised them as committed political officers," he said in a statement today.
He said as the chief of staff at the chief minister's office, Ooi should not have launched such unprofessional and personal attacks on Pakatan leaders.
Not the first time
Amir opined that Ooi's statement can be misconstrued as the political stand of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng himself.
He brought up Ooi's outburst against Mohd Razali last year, which drew heavy criticisms from Muslim-based organisations and leaders in the state.
Ooi had then described Razali of belonging to an extremist organisation namely Pertubuhan Jemaah Islah Malaysia (JIM).
Forum – a coalition of Penang Muslim organisations - then launched a statewide signature campaign to oust Ooi as Lim's chief-of-staff.
The controversy subdued when Ooi retracted his statement, following Lim’s pressure.
Amir reminded Ooi to stop making such personal and defamatory statements against PKR leaders, saying they could create negative perceptions among Pakatan leaders against Lim.
"Such thoughtless remarks would severely affect intra-Pakatan relations," he said.
