Pantai Dalam situation calm, says Shahrizat

Minister for Women's and Family Development Shahrizat Jalil today visited Kawasan C, a long house settlement in Lembah Pantai Dalam, which was affected by the recent clashes between communities in the nearby squatter settlements of Old Klang Road, Petaling Selatan.
"The situation there is calm," she told malaysiakini . However, she said that residents have expressed deep anxiety over the deterioration in ethnic relations over the past week.
Shahrizat also visited malaysiakini 's office in Bangsar this afternoon, a stone's throw away from her parliamentary service centre.

She met with the online news website's editor Steven Gan, chief executive officer Premesh Chandran and news editor Fathi Aris Omar and other members of the malaysiakini team.
The newly-appointed minister, who is member of parliament for the Lembah Pantai constituency, was accompanied by her personal assistants, Mohd Radzi Abdullah and Jaffari Osman, and political secretary Rizal Merican.
Shocked
Shahrizat said that she was shocked by the clashes in Old Klang Road which saw the Malay and Indian communities fighting, resulting in six deaths over the past four days.
Unconfirmed reports say the clashes were triggered when a young boy fired a slingshot at a car, damaging it. However, other sources said the tragedy stemmed from an earlier incident which occurred during a wedding and a funeral on March 4.
Sharizat's political secretary Radzi told malaysiakini that the minister will be visiting Kawasan C again tonight to have a dialogue session with police officials and residents there.
