Four buses were destroyed in a fire, believed to be an act of sabotage, at the Medan Kidd bus station here at 3.30am today.

Ipoh deputy police chief Supt Ibrahim Abu Bakar said three of the buses were owned by Syarikat Reliance Omnibus Company Sdn Bhd and the other belonged to Kinta Omnibus Sdn Bhd.

He said police and Fire and Rescue Department had obtained statements from several security guards to help investigations.

"Investigations are ongoing and we are still waiting for a report from forensics," he said.

Fire extinguished an hour later

A spokesman from the fire department said they received a call at 3.44am and rushed 14 firemen to the scene who extinguished the flames about an hour later.

Meanwhile, a security guard at the station, Yeo Sin Hock, 49, claimed he saw a lorry speeding out of the premises when the fires started.

"I noticed the lorry when I ran to check what was happening," he said.

Reliance Omnibus Company Sdn Bhd managing director Mohd Syaful Abdullah said they would let the police investigate the matter, and that a closed-circuit television recording had been handed over to the authorities.
