Death of a dynasty?

Hovid: PBB stands for Parti Pesaka ‘Bumiputera' Sarawak. If Sulaiman Taib does not qualify as a bumiputera in Sarawak due to his late mother not being a bumiputera (as defined in Article 161A(6)(b) of the federal constitution), he may not qualify as member of PBB in the first place.

And all the privileges given to him, his children, and the company CMS could be questioned as well (if there was any contract given based on a bumiputera status). Maybe that's why they are still silent on amending Article 161A(6)(b). The implication is rather huge, and may create unwanted publicity.

Disgusted: It's time for the people of Sarawak to wake up and overthrow the ‘dynasty' and its cronies who have robbed and plundered Sarawak, and who are also responsible for Sarawak's environmental degradation as well as human rights abuses especially to the natives such as the Penans.

All educated Sarawakians, especially those in West Malaysia and overseas, should cry for your home state and not forget about it after achieving your education and success elsewhere. You must make it a mission to go back to Sarawak and inform and educate your family members, relatives and friends who are in the dark about the circumstances their state is in, and to vote these crooks and parasites in BN out of the government.

Give Pakatan Rakyat a chance to rule the state and to bring all these corrupt politicians, their friends and cronies to the book in courts and to recover all their ill-gotten gains for the benefit of the people of Sarawak.


'Allah' issue: Home Ministry gets stay order

Victor Johan: Why did Dr Mahathir Mohamad's son Mukhriz sign up for the ‘Allah' protest and while his daughter Marina called critics of the court decision ‘idiots'? This is because Mukhriz, like his father, is an Umno politician - only there for self-interest whilst Marina is there for the interest of humankind. She has always stood for human rights and freedom and for understanding in religious matters.

Gk: When we were young, we were taught 'A' is for apple, 'B' is for boy. Then one day, someone said, ‘apple' and ‘boy' are mine, you cannot touch these words. Then, by all means, there is no point arguing. In our hearts, we can still use 'A' for apple, 'B' for boy, or just spell 'A' and 'B' to represent 'apple' and 'boy' respectively. No point arguing further. Wise?

Sean Koh: Kudos to The Herald for having the nation at heart. So many Malaysians have given up hope on the way the country is being governed. There are bigger issues to resolve than the use of the term ‘Allah', which is fine as long as people do not misuse it. It is a sad state we are in.

X'roy: "The court decision has led to angry reactions from Muslims, who feel that 'Allah' is exclusive to Islam." I think this is a wrong. The correct one is: "The court decision has led to some irresponsible leaders of the ruling party Umno to stir the sentiments of Muslims from mainly their ranks to demonstrate and cause trouble."

Rayfire: The word ‘Allah' is not for exclusive usage as long as it is not misused. Hope more people will see this fact in due time. Protests will only worsen the situation and bring shame. This applies to all parties involved.

Paddington Bear: This is disheartening, but unfortunately one party simply has to give way. Let's all look at the bigger picture.


About my brother judge Augustine Paul

Habib RAK: Perhaps now, the overwhelming number of people who had severely criticised Augustine Paul would not feel so bad because a senior ex-judge has now confirmed that he was indeed a ‘bad and evil' judge.

Nevertheless, I think enough has been said already. What is more important is for the current judges to take note and be forewarned. The wrath of the people will fall upon you if you follow the footsteps of Augustine Paul. Some serving judges are already of the same like, and I hope they make amends soon.

Eddy: NH Chan what kind of person are you, character assassinating the late Augustine Paul, federal court judge when he is dead and buried. You should have written this article when he was alive and could answer you with a reply.

By A Name: NH Chan and Augustine Paul are on opposite sides of the scale, the difference could be that one could sleep better than the other. Now one is sleeping forever. They were almighty judges during their time and they meted out sentences by definition of the law they perceived as the law.

Chan has been firing away and I wonder how no one higher up in the Umnoputras or the attorney-general dishes out ‘punishment' to the one living. I applaud Mr Chan, former justice Chan or retired Chan, for his clear and concise education on this case.

Gibran: Augustine Paul worked for people in the government, he did not work for justice. That is what is happening to most of our judges today. We have a dysfunctional judiciary.


Ex-councillor ingests paraquat, state rep threatens to quit

Wira: Yes, why is Nibong Tebal so special that the town should be exempted from paying parking fees? Is it fair to the folks in Butterworth/Prai where, under the same MPSP (Seberang Prai Municipal Council) umbrella, town folks there need to pay parking fees whereas Nibong Tebal continues to be exempted?

As for the suicide case, it is common sense that those who cannot stand the heat should stay out of the kitchen. No sympathy from me.

Jett: Lim Kit Siang and Guan Eng, will you guys please get all this people out from the DAP line-up? We do not need this people in the first place. Clean up your backyard before asking us to support you in the coming general election.

Kgan: DAP must not give in to this type of political gangsterism. If Jawi assemblyperson Tan Beng Huat cannot toe the party line, he should quit and allow a by-election to be held. As he was elected on a DAP platform, he has no moral right to hold on to the seat.
