A political drama is unfolding in Jawi, an area in mainland Penang, where a DAP councillor who was dropped from her post ingested paraquat, a poisonous weed-killer, while the party’s state representative threatened to quit.

teong ai ling @ zhang ai lingTeong Ai Ling, 33, who was councillor for Seberang Jaya, was hospitalised at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur after she was found at a relative’s house.

It is learnt that her condition is stable, but family members have banned all DAP leaders from visiting her.

Earlier today, Teong’s one-year term as councillor was not renewed by the DAP-led state government for alleged incompetence.

It is believed that she was upset over a newspaper report quoting sources attacking her work.

Teong, who is division chief of Nibong Tebal, is the only female division leader in Penang DAP.

Jawi state rep upset over parking issues

NONEMeanwhile, Jawi assemblyperson Tan Beng Huat has threatened to quit DAP and become independent assemblyman if the state government is adamant on imposing car parking fees in Nibong Tebal.

Tan said he was disappointed with the decision and asked Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to reconsider the decision.

"If they refuse (to withdraw the paid parking system), I will (quit to become independent)," he told reporters at his service centre today.

Earlier, some 50 people representatives and members of non-governmental organisations gathered peacefully to protest against the decision to impose the parking fees which took effect from Jan 1.

No charges were levied for parking before this.
