'Jeffrey happy with the Sabah line-up'

PKR's de-facto leader Anwar Ibrahim today dismissed speculations that party vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan was unhappy with the party's Sabah leadership line-up.
PKR's de-facto leader Anwar Ibrahim today dismissed speculations that party vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan was unhappy with the party's Sabah leadership line-up.
Speaking to reporters at Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC), the opposition leader lashed out: "Why must you create (rumours) that he (Kitingan) is unhappy?
"He did not say that (that he is unhappy), (that's what) he told me...he said he was fine with everybody. I was there...don't entertain nasty voices," said Anwar briefly.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Anwar had deflated expectations of many Sabah PKR leaders when he failed to announce a new state line-up, which many had expected to be led by Kitingan.
Anwar also insisted that Libaran division chief Ahmad Thamrin Jaini would remain the appointed state chief until state party polls in March. He did not disclose if Kitingan had agreed to this move.
The on-going controversy started when former Sabah chief Kitingan was replaced by vice-president Azmin Ali, who himself was ousted in a state party rebellion against him.
Finally the party appointed local leader Thamrin as the state chief in what was widely perceived as an unpopular mover.
Kitingan had also previously alleged that Thamrin's appointment "did not follow democratic principles".
Hadi was misunderstood
On another matter concerning the official formation of Pakatan Rakyat, Anwar jumped to PAS' president Abdul Hadi Awang's defence by saying that the latter was "misunderstood" when he was quoted as saying that he was against such a move.
"We have to read his statement in the appropriate context because the decision to register Pakatan Rakyat is still in our agreement.
"What has been raised (by Hadi) was that he agreed to register Pakatan (as a coalition) but he has not agreed to the detailed plans of the formalisation as this would take time," explained Anwar.
He further added that this was a "misunderstanding" on Hadi's part and emphasised that the Pakatan leaders "are committed in registering Pakatan".
However, he stressed that formalising Pakatan was not the priority "because we are more concerned with our (common) policies".
It was reported today in Chinese-language newspaper Sin Chew Daily that Hadi was against the official registration of the coalition.
However, top Pakatan leaders dismissed the report and suggested that Hadi might have been misquoted.
